Desperation to prevent hunt monitors filming the hunting activities of her
husband has landed Sara Phillis with an £80.00 fixed penalty. Monitors have expressed anger that this is a cheap way of allowing the hunt to circumvent the Hunting Act, but have been assured she will come up before the courts if it happens again.
Last year, the notorious Crawley and Horsham hunt pulled out of a High Court civil action brought under the Harassment Act against hunt monitors, with costs of at least £130,000 to pay. The evidence of illegal hunting was seemingly a hurdle they could not get across as the monitor's defence was that they were acting to prevent crime.
